Tips for a Seamless Installation of Your Family Room Frame TV

After the fireplace remodel, we finally had a solution to the heat rising above where the TV would go. John and I decided to go with a Samsung Frame TV since these are so thin and can sit flush against the wall. I also liked the idea of having art as a screensaver on the TV so we could make the room more formal if needed.

This is our experience of how we installed the Samsung Frame TV in our family room. We followed the instructions for the installation of the mounting brackets and mounting the TV according to Samsung's instructions but did forge down a different path for the box that connects and powers the TV.

When our house was under construction, we visited many times and took pictures at each stage, including in the beginning before the drywall went up. Thankfully, we saved those same photos and used them as a reference to determine where the One Connect box would go. If you are installing this in your house, I would recommend doing a little research first to see what is behind your walls before cutting a large hole for the box. Otherwise, you could have a bigger mess and project on your hands.

Tip #1 Decide On a Permanent Home For the TV

Prep time: 1 hour

Installation time: 2 hours

The box is about the size of a DVD player, for those of you who remember DVDs, and we decided to place it directly in the wall. Samsung did not include instructions on this, and John did his own research to figure out how to get the box inside the wall. He found a plastic insert on Amazon that we were able to use to place the box inside the hole made in the drywall.

The installation involved cutting through the drywall, inserting the plastic insert and then placing the box inside. The HDMI cable was added later once the TV was mounted.

Tip #2 Measure Twice, Drill Once

Prep time: 30 minutes

Installation time: 30 minutes

Samsung provided helpful paper templates to use to make the wall mount easier. We measured with a laser level and then taped the templates to the walls and then measured again... twice. Once my anxiety over the measurements faded away, the holes were drilled and the mounting brackets were secured to the walls. John also used heavier screws than the ones Samsung provided as a precaution, since neither one of us wanted to worry about the TV falling off the wall.

Tip #3 Assemble Your TV Mounting Team

Prep time: 10 minutes

Installation time: 10 minutes

Teamwork makes the dream work, especially when it comes to installing large TVs. Our team was made up of 3 people because our TV is 75 inches. My brother-in-law came over to assist since you need one person at each end of the TV to lift and a third person to connect the HDMI and power cord to the box in the wall. I was the lucky third person who plugged in the TV before it was mounted, so I had the easiest yet the most important job.

I would not recommend trying to install this TV on your own since you could very well break the new TV, and that would be heartbreaking. If you are unsure about who can help with this, I would recommend looking into whether the big box store you're buying the TV from offers an installation package, since that could be the best way to go.
