Sometimes it’s the little changes that make a big difference in your home. This project really did take less than one weekend and it didn’t involve any demolition.
The closet in our kitchen is used as a pantry for typical things like snacks, cereal, food containers. It’s also used for my aprons, reuseable grocery bags and even a coffeemaker that I use for parties. It gets a lot of use and the main problem was the wire shelving that was starting to bend under the weight of all our items and of course, when something smaller would fall through the shelf.
We decided to keep the existing wire shelves and simply add wooden covers over each one. This may not meet everyone’s approval for a solution but for us, it works. We really wanted a better solution to prevent pantry items from slipping through the cracks.
John found these wooden shelves on Amazon and ordered enough to cover the existing shelves. He did have to cut the length a few inches as well as notches to fit around the existing poles supporting the shelves. The great thing is that the wooden shelf covers are lightweight and don’t drag down the existing wire shelves.
So what do you think? Would you convert to wooden shelves as well?
