Fall Decor: Less is More

This post might ruffle some feathers, but I am going to be honest about fall decor in and out of my house, which is less is more. I know that this contradicts the popular opinion of most content creators out there who embrace the trend of hundreds of pumpkins on your outdoor porch, followed by covering every square inch of your house with some form of pumpkin item. For those who wish to go all out, I applaud you, but I simply don’t want to store a lot of indoor fall decorations for the remaining 9 months of the year. I will make some exceptions, though, for glass pumpkins.

I received my first glass pumpkin almost sixteen years ago when I moved into my apartment. My mother gave it to me, and it actually had a candle inside, which has since been burned completely. But I kept the pumpkin since I loved it, and it was my first decoration for my one-bedroom apartment at the time.

Since then, I have expanded my pumpkin collection to include various colors and sizes, including a favorite of mine, which is turquoise blue. I realize that pumpkins don’t come in this color in nature, but it’s my favorite color and it’s a complementary color to orange, so it works.

In terms of outdoor decorations, I am pruning the orange marigolds that I planted this summer, in hopes that they will last until Halloween. I may be delusional, but so far, it’s working out. The bright orange color reminds me of a pumpkin, and I don’t need to do anything extra to make the plant look more “autumn-like.”

What are your thoughts and preferences for fall decor? Are you a Fall Scrooge like me?
