A new year can mean a lot of new ideas, resolutions, and changes. I don’t have any resolutions for 2026, but I have plenty of new home resolutions and changes I want to implement in my house. As the old adage goes, a house is never really “done,” and this year is no exception.

My design inspiration and home resolutions often come together over a cup of coffee.
My design inspiration often comes when drinking a cup of coffee.

I have realized that buying a house and having so many rooms to tackle can get overwhelming very quickly. This is why I decided to start a design series over the next few weeks to share what I have learned and to hopefully inspire you to start tackling those projects you have been thinking about in your own home! Here is what I will focus on over the next few weeks with home resolutions.

  1. Getting Started: this is the toughest one because to get started, you need to spend time thinking through what you want and how you want to use the space.

  2. Making the right decisions: the term “analysis paralysis” is used at my day job, which essentially means that you’re in a constant cycle of analyzing and researching but not coming to a decision. I'll share more on how to stop the "analysis paralysis" cycle.

  3. Implementing your design: this is the fun part because your design starts to come to life here. Choose a good time of day when you feel the most creative and productive to paint, arrange furniture, hang photos, etc. When you feel your best, you will be able to create that design you have been dreaming about.
